December 21: Winter Solstice Walk, 6pm, Sunset Community Centre
Join us on the shortest day of the year for a lantern parade to celebrate the darkness of winter and the growing light to come. This short walk will be followed by warm snacks for all. Please dress for the weather. Walk will take place rain or shine. Share on Facebook.

December 8: Lantern Building Workshop, 11am-4:30pm, Sunset Community Centre
Craft your own lantern to light up the winter solstice! Join Sunset's Artists in Residence and master lantern builder Ian McFarlane in a FREE lantern making workshop. Participants will learn how to shape rattan reeds and fabric into beautiful lanterns to bring light to the short and dark days of winter. These lanterns will be featured in the Sunset Winter Solstice Lantern Walk on December 21.

Please note: Each lantern takes approximately 4 hours to complete. People ages 14 and up may build on their own, while younger children will need to work with an adult. Cooperation in building is encouraged!

November 28: Sunset Nursery Walk, 10:15-11am, Sunset Community Centre
A slow walk exploring indoor plants and blossoms. On this very special walk we will be treated to greenhouses full of poinsettias and the warmth of the tropical house in the rarely open to the public Sunset Nursery. No registration required. Share on Facebook.

Field recording workshop
October 20, 10am-1pm: Recording; October 21: 1-5pm: Editing
Calling all curious ears! Learn to use basic audio recording equipment to document the sounds of your neighbourhood and create your own short audio collage. This two part workshop will include hands-on instruction in recording and audio editing. All audio recording equipment will be provided. FREE. Limited to 8. Please register online here.

September 15: *Rescheduled* Reading Lounge, 11am-2pm, Sunset Community Centre
Grab your favourite book and get ready to read at our pop-up reading lounge! We’ll have beach chairs for reading, relaxing, and watching the afternoon drift by. Not ready to read to yourself? Share a story you love (or one you've just discovered) at our long distance storytelling stations. In case of rain, the reading lounge will be moved indoors.

September 22: Fall Leaf Walk (and Poems!), 4pm, Sunset Community Centre

Say hello to fall with a neighbourhood walk to explore the heights, colours, and varieties of trees in the Sunset neighbourhood. Walkers will have the opportunity to transform their leaf and tree observations into site specific poetry. No writing experience required. Writers are encouraged to use the language of their choice. Walk will last approximately 90 mins and will take place rain or shine. Meet in the Sunset lobby with comfy shoes.

August 12: Perseids Meteor Viewing, 8:30pm-late, Moberly Park
Bring a blanket and snacks and get ready to stare at the sky in the company of friends and neighbours. We'll gather at Moberly Park (7646 Prince Albert Street) to catch the peak of the annual Perseids meteor shower.

July 4 & 27: Creative Remix Camp
Julie & Matthew will be teaching soundwalk and mapping techniques to kids in Moberly's Creative Remix camps. Learn more and register here.

July 27: Fraser River Walk, 7pm
An evening walk to explore the Fraser River, our companion and southern border. Meet at Dogwood Brewing (8284 Sherbrooke Street) at 7pm, or join us starting at 6pm for a pre-walk pint. This walk will last approximately 2 hours.

July 1st: Canada Day Pop-Up, 12-4pm
What does home Smell like, Taste like, Feel like, Sound like, Look like? Join us to Celebrate Canada Day, and explore the area with a sense scavenger hunt, at Sunset Community Centre from 12-4pm.

June 21: Solstice Dawn Walk
Rise and shine for the longest day of the year! Join us for an early morning exploration of sunrise sounds and feelings. Meet at 5:30am at Moberly (7646 Prince Albert St). Coffee and breakfast snacks will be served.

May 16: Community Mapping (pop-up #3)
Join us in the Sunset lobby from noon-4pm to make never before seen maps of your own journey!

May 19: Fraser Soundwalk
Open your ears to the sounds around Fraser Street on Saturday, on this all ages soundwalk—a guided walk focused on listening. Meet at 4:30pm in the Sunset Community Centre lobby. RSVP on Facebook (or just show up!).

May 4: Music with Preteen Leaders
Matthew, Julie, and the preteen group will gather for a casual group music lesson and song hangout.

April 29: Blossom Walk
Explore the sights and smells of cherry blossom season with Matthew and Julie. We will wander through (and possibly sing to) the pink blooms of spring. Meet at 4:30pm in the Sunset Community Centre lobby. RSVP on Facebook (or just show up!).

March 21: Spring Sense Walks
Join Julie from 11am-noon or 3:30-4:30pm to explore the sights, sounds, smells, feelings, and tastes of spring with a leisurely walk through the neighbourhood. Meet in the Sunset Community Centre Lobby, and be ready to walk (slowly) rain or shine.

February 14: Valentines for Places (pop-up #2)
Join us in the Sunset Lobby from 11am-4pm to make Valentines for places you love (local or otherwise). We'll provide prompts, supplies, and a few sweet treats. Hope to see you there!

January 16: Sound Station (pop-up #1)
Matthew and Julie will be in the Sunset Lobby from 11am-3:30pm with bowls, spoons, mallets, shakers, and more. Stop by to make some sounds and to make your own take-home sound journal!
