Crunching through the autumn leaves |
On the day after Thanksgiving we were joined by a group of Recreation programming students from nearby Langara College for a surprisingly sunny morning soundwalk. We crunched leaves and acorns, listened to a leaf blower across blocks and blocks, heard bird song and wind chimes and the quiet hum of grocery refrigerators.
A sunny start down the new park path |
As with all of our soundwalks, the participants were surprised by how difficult it was to refrain from talking and then surprised again to realize just how much there is to hear! We remarked on the ways we were composers of our own listening experience, sometimes playing the environment with our feet or with our attention.

It was a treat to share our practice and neighbourhood wanderings with this group of generous students. Thank you to them and instructor Cyndy Chwelos for organizing the connection!
